Product information "FMC Hymenocera picta - Harlekin Garnele"

Hymenocera picta – Harlequin Shrimp

The Harlequin Shrimp (Hymenocera picta) is a fascinating and striking species of shrimp known for its exceptional coloration. It is characterized by a distinctive pattern of orange and white spots that resemble a harlequin costume. This species is primarily found in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, including coral reefs around Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand.

The Harlequin Shrimp is a specialist feeder, with a diet consisting almost exclusively of sea stars. Sea stars of the genus *Asterina* are particularly favored. Therefore, it is important to ensure that an aquarium housing this shrimp always has an adequate supply of sea stars to meet its dietary needs. It is recommended to regularly provide the shrimp with sea stars, as it could otherwise starve.

On the other hand, care should be taken not to keep the Harlequin Shrimp with certain species of sea stars. Sea stars such as *Linckia* or burrowing sea stars are particularly vulnerable, as they are likely to be consumed by the shrimp. Therefore, these species should be avoided in an aquarium if you wish to keep a Harlequin Shrimp.

The care of the Harlequin Shrimp requires a well-established aquarium with stable water parameters. An aquarium of at least 100 liters is recommended.

is the constant maintenance of salinity, as well as the use of a good sea salt, such as the Fauna Marin Professional Sea Salt.

The salinity should always be between 34/35 per mille, respectively 1.022 and 1.024 density. Regular checking of the density is an absolute must in marine aquaristics.
