Ophiolepsis superba – Banded Brittle Star
The Banded Brittle Star (Ophiolepsis superba) is a fascinating species of brittle star found in tropical marine regions, particularly in the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific. It is characterized by its long, slender arms with a distinctive banded pattern.
Brittle stars are extremely useful in reef aquariums as they clean the substrate of food residues and organic material. Ophiolepsis superba requires an aquarium with a volume of at least 200 liters and sufficient hiding spots in the form of live rock or caves. They prefer stable, well-filtered water with a temperature range of 24°C to 27°C. It is important not to house the brittle star with aggressive or bottom-dwelling fish that might disturb it.
Regarding diet: The Banded Brittle Star primarily feeds on food residues, detritus, and occasionally small organisms. It is recommended to supplement its diet with frozen or granular food to meet its nutritional needs.

Important for the care of corals and fish
is the constant maintenance of salinity, as well as the use of a good sea salt, such as the Fauna Marin Professional Sea Salt.
The salinity should always be between 34/35 per mille, respectively 1.022 and 1.024 density. Regular checking of the density is an absolute must in marine aquaristics.
