Pseudochromis fridmani – Fridman's Dottyback
Pseudochromis fridmani, also known as Fridmani's or Orchid Dottyback, is a small fish growing to approximately 6 cm in length, native to the coasts of the Red Sea. Males are slightly larger than females. The fish is strikingly colored in shades of purple to violet. In the wild, it lives at depths of up to 60 meters, often hidden among vertical rocks and under overhangs.
Orchid Dottybacks are ideal inhabitants for all sizes of marine aquariums. They prefer an environment with plenty of hiding spots, stable water parameters, and compatible tank mates. In the Red Sea, these fish typically live in groups, but in aquariums, they are best kept in pairs. Group housing (3 - 5 individuals as a harem) is possible in very large aquariums, where many hiding places are essential.
This species is relatively easy to care for. Captive-bred specimens are regularly available in the trade, and the species has also been successfully bred by aquarists.
Individually housed fish can become quite aggressive toward newly introduced tank mates. Adding another Pseudochromis fridmani later can also lead to problems. Therefore, careful planning of tank mates is crucial.
These fish feed on small invertebrates and meaty foods. They readily accept live or frozen food such as mysis, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. High-quality flake or pellet food is also accepted. Thanks to their hardiness and adaptability, they are a popular choice for reef aquariums.

Important for the Care of Corals and Fish
Maintaining consistent salinity is crucial, along with using high-quality sea salt, such as Fauna Marin Professional Sea Salt.
The salinity should always remain between 34/35 parts per thousand, or a specific gravity of 1.022 to 1.024. Regularly checking the specific gravity is an absolute must in marine aquariums.
