Pseudanthias squamipinnis - Jewel Anthias or Sea Goldie

The Pseudanthias squamipinnis, known as the Jewel Anthias, is a colorful marine inhabitant native to the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific.

For successful maintenance in a saltwater aquarium, certain aspects need to be considered.

Accommodating Pseudanthias squamipinnis requires a well-structured reef aquarium with sufficient hiding places and swimming space. Due to their social nature, these fish should be kept in groups of at least 5 individuals, never singly or in pairs. A suitable group structure not only contributes to their well-being but also allows for interesting behavioral observations. If a group of, for example, 5 females is introduced, the most dominant one will transform into a male, becoming larger and more colorful than the others and then taking care of its "harem."

The diet should be diverse, including high-quality frozen food and live food such as Mysis or similar. Feeding intervals should initially be more generous, later reducing to twice a day. Ensuring regular and balanced nutrition is crucial for health and color intensity.

Crucial for the care of corals and fish is the consistent maintenance of salinity and the use of high-quality sea salt, such as Fauna Marin Professional Sea Salt. Salinity should always be between 34/35 parts per thousand or 1.022 and 1.024 density. Regular density checks are a must in marine aquariums.
