Product information "Monetaria annulus - Ringed Money Cowry"
Monetaria annulus - Goldring Cowrie
Monetaria annulus is a shell-bearing gastropod in the family Cypraeidae, known as Cowrie snails.
Cowrie snails have rounded, smooth shells. In the living animal, the mantle edge is extended over the shell. Where the mantle meets on the back, it forms a line in the pattern. The species name "annulus" means "ring" and refers to the yellow ring on the smooth shell.
They are mainly found in the tropics, often nocturnal and omnivorous.
Monetaria annulus is one of the most common Cowrie snails found in the Indo-Pacific. In the tidal zone and shallow water areas, they can be found in various habitats, such as sand, mud, and seagrass beds. They can also be spotted there during the day.
Monetaria annulus (with ring) is coral-friendly, feeding on algae, carrion, and fouling organisms.
