Haliotis asinina - Donkey’s Ear Abalone
Haliotis asinina, also known as sea ears or abalones, owe their name to their resemblance to an ear shell.
A distinctive feature of these snails is the small openings along the top of their shells.
Depending on the size of the aquarium, they can be kept individually or in a small group. Sea ears are valuable inhabitants in marine aquariums because they actively contribute to the balanced marine biology. They feed exclusively on algae.
In nature, these snails are mostly nocturnal, but in the aquarium, they often come out during the day to their preferred feeding spots with algae growth.
Due to their size, the snails need an ample supply of algae as food. If necessary, Caulerpa or Nori algae may need to be supplemented.
Once acclimated, they also enjoy consuming the Fauna Marin Snail Plate or Green Algae Leaves.
