Elacatinus oceanops – Neon Goby
The Neon Goby (Elacatinus oceanops) is an impressive and beneficial species of fish, known for its striking neon-blue stripe pattern. This goby belongs to the Gobiidae family and is predominantly found in the tropical coral reefs of the Caribbean.
The Neon Goby is an essential helper in an aquarium, contributing to the health of other fish through its cleaning behavior. It removes parasites and dead skin from its tankmates, making it a peaceful and popular addition to a well-maintained reef tank.
Keeping this goby is relatively easy, but it requires an aquarium of at least 60 liters. The tank should include hiding spots made of live rock and sufficient open swimming space. Stable water conditions with temperatures between 24°C and 28°C are crucial for its well-being.
The Neon Goby is an omnivore, feeding on small crustaceans, plankton, and fine frozen or pellet food. It is important to feed the goby regularly to meet its nutritional needs, even though it obtains some food through its cleaning activities.

is the constant maintenance of salinity, as well as the use of a good sea salt, such as the Fauna Marin Professional Sea Salt.
The salinity should always be between 34/35 per mille, respectively 1.022 and 1.024 density. Regular checking of the density is an absolute must in marine aquaristics.
