Elacatinus evelynae - Sharknose Goby
The Sharknose Goby (Elacatinus evelynae) lives in the coral reefs of the Bahamas, the Lesser Antilles, and northern South America. It maintains fixed cleaning stations on elevated, massive stony corals of the genera Colpophyllia, Diploria, and Montastraea at depths of up to 30 meters. There, it lives individually, in pairs, or in groups, often together with the Cleaning Goby (Elacatinus genie). Sharknose Gobies likely feed exclusively on parasitic crustaceans, which they remove from the skin of their "clients." These diurnal fish hide at night in their coral shelters.
In aquarium care:
Sharknose Gobies are small, slender fish that grow to about 3 cm in length. They are commercially bred for marine aquariums and are considered relatively easy to care for. An aquarium with a volume of at least 100 liters is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and hiding places. As cleaner fish, they benefit from the presence of other fish that they can clean of parasites. It is important to ensure stable water parameters and a varied diet.
