Gobiodon okinawae – Yellow Coral GobyThe Yellow Coral Goby (Gobiodon okinawae) is a striking yellow, small reef dweller found in the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific, particularly around Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines. This species lives in close symbiosis with hard corals, especially those of the genus Acropora. It helps protect the corals by deterring predators and uses their branches as shelter and living space. The Yellow Coral Goby is a popular choice for nano and reef aquariums. It doesn't require much swimming space but thrives in an environment with coral structures, stable water conditions, and peaceful tankmates. Due to its small size and calm nature, it is ideal for smaller aquariums.Scientific NameGobiodon okinawaeCommon NameYellow Coral GobyOriginIndo-PacificAdult SizeApprox. 4 - 5 cmAquarium SizeFrom 100 litersTemperature24°C - 28°CDietSmall live or frozen foods (Artemia, Cyclops, Mysis)Fine granulated or flake foodDifficulty LevelEasyCompatibilityBest kept singly or as a pair; avoid aggressive species

Tripneustes gratilla – Collector Sea UrchinThe Collector Sea Urchin (Tripneustes gratilla) is a fascinating species of sea urchin, known primarily for its round shape and short, evenly arranged spines. This species is found in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, particularly in the coral reefs of the Caribbean and the western Pacific.Collector sea urchins are known for their peaceful nature and are useful animals in a reef aquarium as they graze on algae on surfaces such as rocks, sand, and glass. They help control algae growth and, with proper care, can live up to 2 years in an aquarium. For successful care, the Collector Sea Urchin requires a well-established aquarium with stable water parameters. The aquarium should have a minimum volume of 200 liters and provide sufficient hiding spots in the form of rocks or other reef structures. A temperature range of 24°C to 28°C is ideal. The Collector Sea Urchin mainly feeds on algae that grow on the surfaces in the aquarium. However, it is recommended to supplement its diet with seaweed sheets or specialized sea urchin food if there are not enough algae present.Scientific NameTripneustes gratillaCommon NameCollector Sea Urchin, Pincushion Hairy Urchin, Cake Sea UrchinHabitatTropical coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific (Caribbean, Western Pacific)Adult SizeApprox. 10 - 12 cm (diameter)Aquarium SizeFrom 200 litersTemperature24°C - 28°CDietAlgae (green, brown, and red algae)Additional seaweed sheetsTank MatesPeaceful; avoid keeping with aggressive or bottom-dwelling fish
Labroides dimidiatus – Bluestreak Cleaner WrasseThe Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus) is a small, striking fish from the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific. It is known for its symbiotic relationship with other fish, where it removes parasites and dead skin. This cleaning behavior makes it an important part of the reef ecosystem. The Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse lives in small groups, consisting of one male and several females. It is a peaceful fish that integrates well into reef aquariums. Due to its size and behavior, it is particularly suited for aquariums with other small, peaceful species. For aquarium care, a reef aquarium with stable water parameters and plenty of hiding spots is required. The fish is relatively easy to care for and accepts a variety of food types, including live and frozen food, as well as flakes and pellets. Elacatinus evelynae - Sharknose GobyThe Sharknose Goby (Elacatinus evelynae) lives in the coral reefs of the Bahamas, the Lesser Antilles, and northern South America. It maintains fixed cleaning stations on elevated, massive stony corals of the genera Colpophyllia, Diploria, and Montastraea at depths of up to 30 meters. There, it lives individually, in pairs, or in groups, often together with the Cleaning Goby (Elacatinus genie). Sharknose Gobies likely feed exclusively on parasitic crustaceans, which they remove from the skin of their "clients." These diurnal fish hide at night in their coral shelters. In aquarium care:Sharknose Gobies are small, slender fish that grow to about 3 cm in length. They are commercially bred for marine aquariums and are considered relatively easy to care for. An aquarium with a volume of at least 100 liters is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and hiding places. As cleaner fish, they benefit from the presence of other fish that they can clean of parasites. It is important to ensure stable water parameters and a varied diet.
